Oxford

Oxford is a city of 149,800 inhabitants in the United Kingdom, in the county of Oxfordshire in England. It is home to the University of Oxford, the oldest university in the Anglo-Saxon world, and the Apex Museum. It is known as "the city with dreamy spiers," a term coined by Matthew Arnold for the harmonious architecture of university buildings. Unlike Cambridge, Oxford is an industrial city, particularly for cars in the suburb of Cowley. The name of the city is composed of two words: Ox and Ford, which means "buoys". The presence of the University of Oxford entails a great influx of students who in the weekend are rebuffed in the streets animating the city. Oxford è una città di 149.800 abitanti del Regno Unito, nella contea dell'Oxfordshire in Inghilterra. È sede dell'Università di Oxford, la più antica università del mondo anglosassone, e dell'Ashmolean Museum. È conosciuta come "la città dalle sognanti guglie", un termine coniato da Matthew Arnold per l'armonica architettura degli edifici dell'università. A differenza di Cambridge, Oxford è una città industriale, in particolare per la produzione di automobili nel sobborgo di Cowley.
