Defense Line of Amsterdam "Defense Line of Amsterdam" A defensive facility surrounding Amsterdam. Building a circular embankment around the city with a radius of 15 to 20 kilometers (total extension of about 135 kilometers), 45 fortresses built there. It was completed in 1920. In the event of emergency, the floodgates were opened, flooded around 3 to 10 kilometers outside of the embankment to a depth of about 1 meter, to prevent enemies. In 1996, it was registered as a World Heritage (cultural heritage). アムステルダム‐の‐ディフェンスライン 《Defence Line of Amsterdam》アムステルダムを取り囲む防衛施設。市街を取り囲む半径15~20キロメートルの環状の堤防を築き(総延長約135キロメートル)、そこに45の要塞を築いたもの。1920年完成。有事には水門を開き、堤防の外側3~10キロメートル幅にわたって深さ1メートル近くまで浸水させ、敵を防ぐ仕組みとなっていた。1996年、世界遺産(文化遺産)に登録された。
