Anthraquinone
Anthraquinone is an aromatic compound belonging to the aromatic group and is a derivative of anthracene. It is yellow to light gray or greenish gray and it is a crystalline powder. The IUPAC strain name is anthracene-9,10-dione anthracene-9,10-dione, but also alias 9,10-anthracenedione, anthradione, anthracene-9,10-quinone and the like. It is insoluble in water and alcohol, but soluble in nitrobenzene and aniline. It is chemically very stable under normal conditions. It is contained in certain plants such as aloe and senna, rhubarb and cascara. It is also present in fungi, algae, insects, etc. It is a substance which causes coloring. It is said that many natural anthraquinone derivatives act as laxatives.
