Ashdod 【Ashdod】 Port city in southern Israel. Tel Aviv is located about 30 kilometers south of Jaffa, facing the Mediterranean Sea. It is an important town of the Philistines, known from the days of the Old Testament. After becoming the center of industry after the first Middle East War, a port was built in 1966, and became the country's largest international trade port in lieu of Jaffa. アシドッド【Ashdod】 イスラエル南部の港湾都市。テルアビブヤッファの南約30キロメートルに位置し、地中海に面する。ペリシテ人の重要な町であり、旧約聖書の時代から知られた。第一次中東戦争後に産業の中心地となり、1966年に港が建設され、ヤッファにかわり同国最大の国際貿易港となった。
