Carbapenem antibiotics
Carbapenem antibiotics (carbapenems) are antibiotics with skeletons in which the sulfur normally present in β-lactam antibiotics is replaced by carbon. Like β - lactam antibiotics, it has cell wall construction inhibitory action and it is said to work sterilizingly. Its characteristic is that it is effective for many bacteria and it is wide area. Since the carbapenem skeleton is more chemically unstable compared to the penem skeleton, clinically, bacterial action does not necessarily appear strongly. Also, although it is a wide area but inhibition of cell wall building, there is no effect on mycoplasma without cell wall and Chlamydia without peptidoglycan and it acts bacteriostatically also on enterococci. Representative are antibiotics such as imipenem and meropenem. Enterococcus ...
