Adrenocortical hormone
Adrenocortical hormone (corticosteroid) is a generic term for hormones produced from the adrenal cortex. It is deeply involved in a wide range of physiological systems such as inflammation control, carbohydrate metabolism, protein catabolism, blood electrolyte level, immune response. It is secreted by various influences such as stress and invasion, and it is also used as a medicine. Male hormones are also secreted from the adrenal cortex, regardless of gender, but are often not included in adrenocortical hormones. Adrenocortical hormones are broadly classified into the following two types. ▪ Glucocorticoids: It acts as an anti-inflammatory agent by controlling carbohydrate, fat, and protein metabolism and prevents the formation of phospholipids, and has various actions such as suppressing the activity of eosinophils. ▪ Mineralocorticoid: It acts to promote sodium retention mainly in the kidney and control electrolyte and moisture.
