Okra
Okra (English: okra, Akiyo, Scientific name: Abelmoschus esculentus) is a plant of the genus Trolloa oiaceae, or its edible fruit. The etymology of the English name okra comes from the Twin nkrama spoken in Ghana. From its shape also called Lady's finger (lady's finger). Place of origin is northeastern Africa (Ethiopia is powerful). It is a perennial herb in places of origin and tropics and it keeps fruits repeatedly for many years, but in Japan it is an annual grass because it can not be done in winter. The Japanese name is American Neri, and there is also a nickname of Land Lotus (Oken Renkon) in addition. In Okinawa Prefecture, Kagoshima Prefecture, Izu Islands and other areas where this vegetable spread nationwide, it was called in Japanese called "Neri" in the area which was eaten before the Showa 50's.
