Shinjuku [Shinjuku] The name of the district of Tokyo. Showa 22 (1947) It was founded after the three districts of Yotsuya, Ushikome and Yodobashi merged. Koshu Highway in the Edo Period and Ome \u0026 \u0026 thinsp; (Okume) \u0026 thinsp; I got the name of Innkeeper (Naito Shinjuku) at the branch point of the highway. Developed as a secondary city center centering on Shinjuku station, skyscrapers are forested in the west side of the station. Heisei 3 (1991) New Metropolitan Government Office building completed and relocated. Population 326,000 (2010). しんじゅく【新宿】 東京都の区名。昭和22年(1947)四谷・牛込・淀橋の3区が合併して発足。江戸時代の甲州街道と青梅 (おうめ) 街道の分岐点の宿駅(内藤新宿)の名をとった。新宿駅を中心に副都心として発展し、駅西側には超高層ビルが林立する。平成3年(1991)新都庁庁舎が完成し移転。人口32.6万(2010)。
