Originated in South America, what was imported as food for the early 1980s went to wild and distributed to the south of Kanto. Breed in paddy field etc in the summer and eat rice and lotus root. The egg mass is brilliant and conspicuous. Jumbo tanishi. すくみりんご‐がい【竦み林檎貝】 リンゴガイ科の巻き貝。殻高5~8センチでタニシに似る。南米原産で、日本には1980年代初めごろに食用として輸入されたものが野生化し、関東以南に分布した。夏に水田などで繁殖し、イネやレンコンを食害する。卵塊は鮮紅色で目立ちやすい。ジャンボタニシ。
