Tsunagawa bear 【Tsukuba bear】 Mammal of bear family. Body hair is black, and crescent shaped vitiligo is on the upper part of the chest. Distributed from the Himalayas region to China, the Korean Peninsula, and Japan. The Japanese black bear is a subspecies of this species, wandering in mountainous areas of Honshu and Shikoku, wintering in the cave and rock, during which females lay birth. It was once distributed in Kyushu, but it is now considered extinct. つきのわ‐ぐま【月輪熊】 クマ科の哺乳類。体毛は黒く、胸の上部に三日月形の白斑がある。ヒマラヤ地方から中国・朝鮮半島・日本にかけて分布。ニホンツキノワグマはこの一亜種で、本州・四国の山地にすみ、樹洞や岩穴で冬ごもりをし、この間に雌は子を産む。かつては九州にも分布していたが、現在は絶滅したものとみなされている。
