Barnsley
Barnsley is a town in South Yorkshire, England, England. It faces the Dunn River, 19 km north of Sheffield, 27 km south of Leeds and 23 km west of Doncaster. Barnsley is surrounded by small towns that form Barnsley Metropolitan Burr, among which Barnsley is the largest and the administrative center. According to the 2001 census, the population of Barnsley Metropolitan Borough was 218,063, and Barnsley had an urban center of 71,599. Barnsley, historically part of West Riding of Yorkshire, is well-known as a pre-industrial city where coal and glass production concentrated, but only a few glass processors and coal production plants remain. Even though the industrial landscape was specified in the 20th century, Barnsley's local culture is rooted in its industrial heritage. Barnsley has a tradition of brass bands and was initially created as a social club in a mining society.
