The tea tree is an evergreen broad-leaved shrub with a height of 60-90cm, but it is over 100cm. The trees that are planted in Jeolla-do and Gyeongsang-do have many branches. The first year is white, with fine hairs, and the second year is gray brown with no hairs. The leaves are usually shifted, and the oval shape is obovoid, with green veins on the surface, veins on the back, green veins, and no hairs on both sides. Flowers bloom in October-November, 3-5cm in diameter, white, fragrant, 1-3, or hanging on the end of branches. The fruit is ripe in the autumn of the following year, and the seed is round and hard. It is presumed to be the mountainous area originating from Sichuan, Yunnan and Guizhou provinces of China to Myanmar and Assam of India. According to "Samguk Yusa" in Korea, Princess Huh Huang-ok of Ayutu Kingdom, who became the Queen of the King Gyu-ro in the Garak Kingdom, brought seeds and planted them in the bamboo grove at Baekwolsan in Gimhae.
