Cloaking effect
The shielding effect is the effect of the repulsive force between electrons and electrons in a multi-electron atom to partially cancel the attraction force between the atom and the electron. When the shielding effect occurs, the attraction of the electrons to the atomic nucleus, which the electrons feel, decreases. At this time, the net charge of the atomic nucleus acting on the electrons is called the effective nuclear charge.
