Liver function test
Liver function tests include liver enzyme tests and are composed of several blood analyzes in clinical biochemistry laboratories to obtain information on the patient's liver status. Most liver diseases initially show mild symptoms, but it is essential to detect these diseases early on. In some diseases, liver is crucially important. In the liver function test, the blood serum or plasma sample of the patient obtained by the venous blood collection is inspected by a medical technologist. Some tests are about function, some about cell integrity, some about conditions associated with bile duct transport enzymes and alkaline phosphatase. Several biochemical tests are useful for the evaluation and management of patients with liver dysfunction. These tests can be used for 1) detection of liver disease, 2) classification of liver failure type, 3) measurement of known liver damage, and 4) response of treatment. When taking certain medicines, some or all of the tests may be performed to confirm that the medicines do not damage the liver.
