Pepper tree
The red pepper is a deciduous broad-leaved shrub or small arboreous tree distributed in Korea, China, Japan, etc. and grows in mountain valley. The height is 3-5m, and the branches are round and gray green. Leaves are opposite to each other. At the end of the branches in May-June, the white flowers bloom on cones. Calyxes, petals, and stamens are 5 each, and one pistil is divided into two from upper side, each with one style. Capsules are swollen semicircular like rubber pillows, the upper part is split into two pieces and ripened in September-October. There are two ovaries, each of which has 1-2 honeycombs, with slightly flat yellow seeds. Wood is used as pegs, chopsticks or firewood, and young leaves are edible.
