Definition of 만니톨 in the Korean dictionary
It is a polysaccharide that does not pass through the blood brain barrier and requires a long time metabolism in the mannitol. Since it is long in the blood, it acts as an osmotically active substance. Therefore, it is used as an osmotic diuretic or blood plasma solution and may be used for the treatment of acute renal failure and cerebral edema. Heart failure is not used as a diuretic because it increases the plasma volume and increases the heart burden and worsens the symptoms.
