An epidemic of the pathogenesis of the disease from the time of the Miasma syriacus to an epidemic caused by a mushroom present in the atmosphere (Miasma, orchid). It was widely believed until the middle of the nineteenth century, but it disappeared with the discovery of hospital microorganisms. For example, the etymology of malaria has been termed "long-term disease" in the sense of "bad air," but now it is proved that it is caused by mosquito-mediated parasites. "Bad air" was only a factor that promoted the generation of mosquitoes. 미아스마설 그리이스 시대부터의 병인에 관한 하나의 설로 대기중에 존재하는 병독(미아스마, 장기(瘴氣))에 의해 전염병이 일어난다는 것. 19세기중엽까지 널리 신봉되어왔으나 병원미생물의 발견과 함께 소멸했다. 예를들면 말라리아의 어원은「나쁜 공기」라는 의미로 장기병이라고 하였으나 현재에는 모기가 매개하는 원충에 의해서 일어나는 병이라는 것이 입증되고 있다. 「나쁜 공기」는 모기의 발생을 촉진하는 요인에 지나지 않았다.
