Milan
Milan is a city in the northern part of Italy and the capital city of Lombardy. Milan is the largest city in northern Italy, located on the Lombardy plain, and the Po River flows through the city. The population is 1.3 million as of 2009 and there are 3.37 million people in the metropolitan area. The population of the city is second only to the capital, Rome, and the metropolitan municipal population far exceeds Rome, forming Italy's largest metropolitan area. Milan is also known as an international, multinational city, with 13.9% of the population being foreigners. It is also a major city in Europe, with major transport links passing through Milan and many historical sites remaining. Milan is one of the most important cities in Europe with its headquarters in finance and many business businesses. Milan's metropolitan area GDP is the seventh highest in Europe by 2008. If Rome is the administrative capital of Italy, then Milan is Italy's economic capital and Italy's largest economic center.
