Prostaglandins are a series of physiologically active substances with a prostanoid structure. It is one of the eicosanoids biosynthesized in arachidonic acid and has various physiological activities. Prostaglandins and thromboxanes are also referred to as prostanoids.

Prostaglandin It is physiologically active substance synthesized in vivo. It is widely distributed in organs and body fluids, has an extremely small amount of physiological action, and is abbreviated PG. In 1930, Kirtlock, a gynecologist in the United States, reported that men had semen contracting and relaxing the uterus, and later called the prostaglandin because its efficacy came from the prostate gland.
