Pyongyang City is the capital and largest city of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The Taedong River flows in the center of the city, and a wide alluvial plains develop. Historically, it was the capital of Goguryeo. In the Goryeo Dynasty, it was one of the Three Kingdoms of Goryeo. In the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, it is nicknamed the Capital of Revolution. After the establishment of the DPRK government, buildings similar to the building style of the former Soviet Socialist Republics were built. During the Korean War, the Republic of Korea and the Allies have occupied for a while. Since 1967, the population has been increasing, and construction of new cities has been promoted and various buildings have been built. The area of Pyongyang is about 1,260 ㎢, accounting for 1% of the total area of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. In 2008, the population of the administrative district was about 325,538, but according to the reduction of the administrative district in 2010, it is now about 2,580,000. The current chairman of the People's Committee is Cha Hee Rim.
