Antarctica
Antarctica is the southernmost continent of the world, comprising geographically southern poles. It is located in the Antarctic area of the Southern Hemisphere, almost all south of the Antarctic Circle, and surrounded by the Southern Ocean. With an area of 14.0 million km2, it is the fifth largest continent in terms of area after Asia, Africa, North America, and South America. In comparison, Antarctica is almost double the size of Australia. About 98% of Antarctica is covered with stone water which is average thickness of at least 1 stone thickness, which extends all but the northern tip of the Antarctic Peninsula. Antarctica, on average, is the coldest, dryest and strongest continent of the wind, and has the highest altitude among the continents. Antarctica is considered a desert, with annual rainfall only 200 mm along the coast and deep into the interior. Temperature in Antarctica reaches -89 ° C. There is no permanent human settlement, but there are about 1,000 to 5,000 people living there throughout the year in monitoring stations scattered along the continent.
