Gambus or qanbūs (Arabic: القنبوس is a translucent short-necked harp that originates from Yemen and spread throughout the Arabian peninsula. It is shaped like a two-piece pear and is a traditional stringed instrument in Malaysia. The gambus comes from Turkish comuz but it is more like oud There are 12 strings (now nylon) cited using plektrum, such as the guitar, however, unlike the guitar, the gambus has no fret (the tone bar in the straps). In the early 20th century during the reign of Imam Yahya, Zaidian priest and a Yemenian government, the gambus was replaced by the oud of the Middle East. The Gambus was popular in Southeast Asian countries such as Malaysia, Brunei and Indonesia. Gambus triggered its own genres and played in Zapin dance a traditional dance in Islamic Southeast Asian countries. becoming a gabion on Comoros and Gabbus islands in Zanzibar.
