Historiography
Historiography is a study of history and its methodology. The term also refers to historical literature on specific topics, with scholars often discussing historiography by topic - such as "Catholicism historiography", "early Islamic historiography", or "Chinese historiography" - as well as according to specific approaches and genres such as political history and social history. Beginning from the 19th century, with the rise of academic history, a history of historiography has grown. The interest of historian research has fluctuated over time and in recent decades, there has been a shift from traditional diplomatic, economic history, and political history to a more recent approach, particularly to social and cultural research. From 1975 to 1995, the proportion of historian professors at American universities associating with social history rose from 31% to 41%, while political historian ratings fell from 40% to 30%.
