Chlorophyll is a photosynthetic pigment that can be found in most plants, algae and cyanobacteria. Its name comes from the old Greek: chloros = green and phyllon = leaves. Chlorophyll works to convert sunlight to food on plants in a process known as photosynthesis. The chlorophyll in the form of a green pigmented nip is known as chloroplast. Klorofil merupakan pigmen fotosintesis yang boleh dijumpai dalam kebanyakan tumbuhan, alga dan sianobakteria. Namanya berasal dari bahasa Greek lama: chloros = hijau dan phyllon = daun. Klorofil berfungsi untuk menukarkan tenaga cahaya matahari kepada makanan pada tumbuhan dalam proses yang dikenali sebagai fotosintesis. Klorofil yang berbentuk merupakan bintil berpigment hijau dikenali sebagai kloroplas.
