Langgar
Pekan Langgar is a small town in Kedah, Malaysia. It is located between the town of Pokok Sena and Bandar Alor Setar. Langgar is a settlement in Kedah that has existed since the 1700s. At that time the transportation route to Langgar was through the riverside from Bukit Pinang. The distance from Alor Setar City is about 9 km. This is where the Tomb of Langgar complex is located next to the Langgar River. The complex was built in June of 1701. Sultan Abdullah Muazzam Shah had chosen Langgar as its place of government and when he died in 1706, he was buried in Langgar. Since then, all the Sultan of Kedah and relatives of the king of Kedah have been buried in a royal memorial in Langgar. Among the figures buried in Langgar include Tunku Abdul Rahman, Malaysian independence planner, as well as the first Malaysian Prime Minister. The late Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj ibn Almarhum Sultan Abdul Hamid Shah himself has chosen to be buried in Langgar instead of the tomb of the hero, at the National Mosque, Kuala Lumpur.
