Mir is a Soviet space orbiting station. Mir is the first ever research station in the world that has been consistently inhabited by humans in space. Mir is also the first "third generation" space station to be built. The station was built for several years with a modular design. Mir holds the record for the longest ever human presence in space, less than eight days to reach a 10-year period, and through some cooperation, can be visited by cosmonauts and international transport from various countries. One of the most important events in the Space Shuttle Program Mir, is the United States shuttle returning 11 times to this station, carrying supplies and providing a change of crew. Mir installation in orbit was done by connecting several modules, each of which was separately launched from 1986 to 1996. The station continued to exist until March 23, 2001, when it was removed from orbit, split during re-entering into the atmosphere above the South Pacific Sea.

Mir merupakan sebuah stesen orbit angkasa milik Soviet. Mir merupakan sebuah stesen penyelidikan pertama di dunia yang secara konsisten didiami paling lama oleh manusia di angkasa. Mir juga merupakan sebuah stesen angkasa lepas "generasi ketiga" yang pertama dibina. Stesen ini dibina selama beberapa tahun dengan rekabentuk modular. Mir memegang rekod untuk kehadiran manusia secara berterusan terlama di angkasa, kurang lapan hari bagi mencapai tempoh 10 tahun, dan melalui beberapa kerjasama, boleh dilawati oleh kosmonaut dan angkawasan antarabangsa dari pelbagai negara. Stesen ini terus wujud sehingga 23 Mac 2001, apabila ia dikeluarkan daripada orbit, berpecah semasa kemasukkan semula ke dalam atmosfera di atas Laut Pasifik Selatan.
