Silicon dioxide, also known as silica, is a type of chemical compound which is one of the oxides of silicon with SiO2 formula. It has been known for its violence since ancient times. In nature, most silica is found in the form of sand and quartz, and can also be found in the diatomic cell wall. Silica is produced in several forms including fused quartz, crystalline, silica silica, colloidal silica, silica gel and aerogel. The main use of silica is in the production of glass for windows, drinking cups, beverage bottles and various other uses. Most optical fibers used for telecommunications are also made of silica. It is a major ingredient in the production of various white ceramic items such as porcelain, porcelain and Portland cement used in the industry. Silica is a common additive used in food production, where it is used primarily as a curing agent in powder food, or to absorb water in hygroscopic use.

Silikon dioksida, juga dikenali sebagai silika, ialah sejenis sebatian kimia yang merupakan salah satu oksida bagi silikon dengan formula SiO2. Ia telah dikenali dengan kekerasannya sejak zaman purba lagi. Dalam alam semula jadi, silika paling banyak ditemui dalam bentuk pasir dan kuartza, dan boleh juga dijumpai di dalam dinding sel diatom. Silika dihasilkan dalam beberapa bentuk termasuk kuartza terlakur, kristal, silika terwasap, silika koloid, gel silika dan aerogel. Kegunaan utama silika ialah di dalam penghasilan kaca untuk tingkap, cawan minum, botol minuman dan pelbagai kegunaan lain. Kebanyakan gentian optik yang digunakan untuk telekomunikasi juga dibuat daripada silika. Ia merupakan bahan utama dalam penghasilan pelbagai barangan seramik putih seperti barangan tembikar, porselin dan juga simen Portland yang digunakan dalam industri. Silika ialah bahan tambahan biasa yang digunakan dalam penghasilan makanan, di mana ia digunakan terutama sekali sebagai agen pengalir dalam makanan serbuk, atau untuk menyerap air dalam kegunaan higroskopi.
