Adsorption
Adsorption - the process of bonding molecules, atoms or ions on the surface or the physical boundary causing local changes in concentration. Adsorption should not be confused with absorption, which is the process of penetration into the interior of the phase. Adsorption, absorption and ion exchange are commonly referred to as sorption processes. The reverse process for adsorption, absorption or general sorption is desorption. In the industry, the adsorption and desorption processes are carried out using adsorbers.
