Afrobeat

Afrobeat - a music genre, originated in Africa in the mid-1960s, combining African rhythms and vocal techniques and traditional music of the Nigerian tribe Yoruba with funk and jazz. Afrobeat appeared in the 1960s. Its roots go back to the Yoruba music, a Nigerian-based, drum-driven and heavily rooted local tradition. The Black Land motifs were quickly adapted by Latin American artists - primarily from the Caribbean. From there the road to the Negro districts of the US was short. The funk era ended in the seventies - the afrobeat was born. Fela Kuti, whose ideas are based on contemporary bands, was the most important figure in this musical phenomenon. From the beginning this genre has been associated with numerous, even twenty-group groups - a bit like American big bands from the first half of the 20th century. Improvisation is the main principle - nothing is planned before the concert. Musicians mix different styles on the stage - the whole is very dynamic and energetic.
