ambitus

Ambitus

Ambitus - is the width, the span of the intervals between the highest and the lowest sound of a given melody. In Gregorian chant, the smallest ambitus was a quarter and was performed in psalms. In other songs, octaves and in some cases nona. There are also works for the duodecyme, such as the sequence of God's Body Lauda Sion Salvatore by Thomas Aquinas. For church scales ambitus was an octave. Ambitus – to szerokość, rozpiętość interwałów między najwyższym a najniższym dźwiękiem danej melodii. W chorale gregoriańskim najmniejszy ambitus wynosił kwartę i występował w psalmach. W innych śpiewach sięgał oktawy, a w niektórych przypadkach nony. Są też utwory osiągające duodecymę, jak na przykład sekwencja o Bożym Ciele Lauda Sion Salvatorem autorstwa Tomasza z Akwinu. Dla skal kościelnych ambitus wynosił oktawę.
