Antitoxin
Antitoxin - a medicinal preparation containing specific antibodies against exotoxins produced by certain microorganisms or contained in snake venom. For the first time in 1890, Emil Adolf von Behring and Shibasaburō Kitasato demonstrated that diphtheria antitoxin neutralizes the action of exotoxins and that this effect can be transferred to individuals who have not previously achieved such immunity. Behring discovered the 1901 Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine. If the species of the microorganism has not been identified, polyvalent antitoxin is administered. Suitable antitoxins are used, among others. In case of suspected poisoning of any microorganism, eg in the case of suspected botulism poisoning, tetanus toxin, diphtheria toxin. Available antitoxins are: horse tetanus antitoxin, 3000 IU; antidote to venom 500 y.a.
