Apulia

Apulia is an administrative region in southern Italy, with an area of ​​19348 km², 4 million inhabitants and the capital of Bari. Population density 208 people per km². It borders with Molise, Campania and Basilicata. The coastline is 784 km long and is the longest in the administrative regions of Italy. The province consists of 6 provinces: Bari, Taranto, Brindisi, Foggia, Barletta-Andria-Trani and Lecce. Apulia is also a historic land in ancient Italy, lying in the south-eastern part of the Apennine Peninsula, along the Adriatic coast. The main town of the region was Doric Taranto. The coast was in ancient times colonized by the Greeks, along with Bruttium, Calabria and Lukania were part of the antiquity of the so-called. Great Greece - until the end of the Middle Ages the influence of Greek culture was strong. In the Apulian city of Rome, Roman poet Horace was born. In Apulia was the city of Kanny, where the defeat of the Romans in the Second Punic war. From the middle of the ninth century to the middle of the 11th century, Calabria and Basilicata belonged to the catepanate of Italy. Apulia – region administracyjny w południowych Włoszech, o powierzchni 19348 km², 4 miliony mieszkańców i stolicą w Bari. Gęstość zaludnienia 208 osób na km². W skład regionu wchodzi 6 prowincji: prowincja Bari, prowincja Tarent, prowincja Brindisi, prowincja Foggia, prowincja Barletta-Andria-Trani i prowincja Lecce. Apulia to także kraina historyczna w starożytnej Italii, leżąca w południowo-wschodniej części Półwyspu Apenińskiego, wzdłuż wybrzeży Adriatyku. Głównym miastem regionu był dorycki Tarent. Wybrzeża były w starożytności skolonizowane przez Greków, wraz z Bruttium, Kalabrią i Lukanią stanowiła w antyku część tzw. Wielkiej Grecji - aż do końca średniowiecza wpływy kultury greckiej były tam silne. W apulijskim mieście Wenuzji urodził się rzymski poeta Horacy. W Apulii znajdowało się miasto Kanny, gdzie doszło do klęski Rzymian w II wojnie punickiej. Od połowy IX w. do połowy XI w. wraz z Kalabrią i Basilicatą należała do katepanatu Italii.
