Astralon

Astralon - a proprietary name for the transparent plastic of Dynamit Nobel, a copolymer of vinyl chloride and methyl acrylate, which is characterized by high dimensional stability while retaining flexibility and lightfastness. It is chemically resistant, smooth, easily washable, so that temporary drawings can be applied on it, and non-durable adhesives can be applied. The material was used in cartography, geodesy, etc., for design applications that required strict dimensions of the drawing, and in the printing industry as a mounting foil for gluing multiple individual copy forms to form a common sheet for printing the printed form. By contrast, astralon is called any plastic used for the same uses as astralon, and today it is most commonly made of another material with similar properties but with increased flexibility.

Astralon – zastrzeżona nazwa własna przezroczystego tworzywa sztucznego firmy Dynamit Nobel, będącego kopolimerem chlorku winylu i akrylanu metylu, którego zasadniczą cechą jest wysoka stabilność wymiarowa przy jednoczesnym zachowaniu elastyczności oraz odporność na światło. Jest to tworzywo odporne chemicznie, gładkie, łatwo zmywalne, dzięki czemu można na nim nanosić tymczasowe rysunki oraz stosować nietrwałe przyklejanie innych elementów. Tworzywo było wykorzystywane w kartografii, geodezji itp. do zastosowań projektowych wymagających zachowania ścisłych wymiarów rysunku, oraz w poligrafii jako folia montażowa do przyklejania wielu pojedynczych form kopiowych w celu utworzenia z nich wspólnego arkusza przeznaczonego do naświetlania formy drukowej. Potocznie astralonem nazywa się każde tworzywo sztuczne wykorzystywane do tych samych zastosowań co astralon, przy czym dzisiaj jest ono najczęściej wykonane z innego materiału o podobnych właściwościach, ale przy zwiększonej elastyczności.
