chiton

Chiton

Chiton - a linen or woolen shirt with short sleeves worn in ancient Greece, of Phoenician origin. Chiton consisted of two rectangular pieces of cloth stitched together with long sides to shoulder height, fibula bindings or buttons. Chiton was put directly on the body; It can be loose or with waistband, long or short. Ionic chitons - made of fine linen fabric, richly folded - from the middle of the 6th century BC. Women also began to wear, which - from the end of the 4th century BC. They began to tear them under their breasts. Chiton Doric was the main male garment, the warriors wore it under the armor against the bodily deformities, but priests and dignitaries were eager to perform in the Ionic chitons, sometimes even with the bones. The simpler and poorer version of chiton was exomís; They were worn by those who worked physically. It was a very light and loose garment, usually tied only on the left shoulder for freedom of movement. Prostszą i uboższą wersją chitonu był exomís; nosili go ci, którzy pracowali fizycznie.
