Eiger

Eiger is a mountain in the Bernese Alps with an altitude of 3970 meters. It is the most famous mountain in the history of extreme alpinism. Together with Mönch and Jungfrau, they form a trio of great peaks in the northern Bernese Oberland in Switzerland. Its northern wall is known under several names: Eigerwand, Nordwand or Mordwand - the name that began to be defined by many tragically completed attempts to acquire it. In 1912, the construction of a toothed train at the Jungfraujoch Pass was completed, which runs several kilometers inside the Eiger. Two windows were made in the north wall, allowing for close observation. The train always stops at these places so that tourists can take advantage of the viewpoints. These are "Eigerwand" and "Eismeer" stations. The northern wall is also very well visible from the Kleine Scheidegg Pass, where the Jungfraujoch cable car station and hotels and restaurants are located; as well as many other places lying at the foot of the wall. The northern wall is 1800 meters high and it is the tallest wall in the Alps and Europe.

Wraz z Mönchem i Jungfrau tworzy trio wielkich szczytów w północnej części berneńskiego Oberlandu w Szwajcarii. Jego północna ściana znana jest pod kilkoma nazwami: Eigerwand, Nordwand lub Mordwand – to nazwa, jaką zaczęto określać ją po wielu tragicznie zakończonych próbach jej zdobycia. W 1912 roku ukończono budowę kolejki zębatej na przełęcz Jungfraujoch, która biegnie przez kilka kilometrów we wnętrzu Eigeru. W dwóch miejscach zrobiono okna w północnej ścianie, umożliwiając obserwowanie jej z bliska. Pociąg zawsze się zatrzymuje w tych miejscach, aby turyści mogli skorzystać z punktów widokowych. Są to stacje "Eigerwand" i "Eismeer". Północna ściana jest także bardzo dobrze widoczna z przełęczy Kleine Scheidegg, na której znajduje się stacja kolejki na Jungfraujoch oraz hotele i restauracje; a także z wielu innych miejsc leżących u podnóża ściany. Północna ściana ma 1800 metrów wysokości i jest to najwyższa ściana w Alpach i Europie.
