Euhemerus

Euhemer of Messena or Akragas - Greek philosopher and traveler. The author retained in the fragments of the trip description Ἱερὰ ἀναγραφή Hiera anagraphe, in which he speaks of his travels in the Indian Ocean to the fictitious island of Panchai, where the ideal Panchai state existed. Known from the view that the gods are pious people for noble deeds. The history of the gods as humans was to be found on this fictitious island. There was a message saying that Uranus, Kronos and Zeus were the kings of the island, and after death they were given a divine honor. He had a great influence on Roman historiography - the abstract of the Latin translation of Ennius - Euhemerus sive sacra historia was preserved in Lactantius. Fragments of Euhemer's work have survived in Latin translations by Ennius, which in turn have been preserved in patristic writings, all of which are based on earlier passages written by Diodorus Sicilian. His views, which assumed that the gods created people, worshiping their great ancestors, heroes and benefactors, were called eucharistic.
