PRONUNCIATION OF FLAGELANT IN POLISH

flagelant

WHAT DOES FLAGELANT MEAN IN POLISH?

Flagellant

The flagellants, flaggers, captain - members of the religious fraternities, existing from the 13th to the 15th centuries, mainly in Italy, Germany, later also in Spain and Poland, who practiced public scourge as a form of penance. At first they were positively evaluated by the Catholic Church and covered a large part of the population of various states. Especially during the great epidemics were the processions and wandering of the half-naked whipping to the blood of women and men, often led by priests with crosses and flags. The battlefield was known from antiquity, but only in the 11th century, especially in the thirteenth century, went beyond the walls of the monasteries. They were dictated by religious or magical practices. Around the middle of the thirteenth century Italy, overwhelmed by the dispute between the gibbons and gibbons, was experiencing a real epidemic of scourge. The church hierarchy over time began to critically perceive the scourge because of the excessive conception of penance, fear of excesses and loss of control over the movement. The whip was stripped to the waist, pushing each other down to the blood.
