Font

Font - a set of fonts with specific characteristics written in electronic form, in one file. Initially, when single fonts were images of individual characters of a certain size, only one font was included in one set. With the spread of vector fonts, which by its very nature are scalable, the size has lost its importance. Currently, a single font is most often a set of fonts of a given cut and type. So "Arial Bold" and "Arial Italic" are two different fonts of one Arial cut. However, there are also fonts in which it is possible to create multiple variations from a single set of fonts. Such fonts were, for example, Multiple Systems Fonts by Adobe Systems. It should be noted that the font, compared to the set of fonts in a given pattern and type, contains more information than the characters themselves, such as kerning pairs, the ability to use alternative characters,

Font – zestaw czcionek o określonych cechach zapisany w postaci elektronicznej, w jednym pliku. Początkowo, gdy pojedyncze czcionki były obrazkami pojedynczych znaków o określonym rozmiarze, na jeden zestaw składały się czcionki tylko jednego rozmiaru. Wraz z rozpowszechnieniem się fontów wektorowych, które z samej swojej natury są skalowalne, rozmiar stracił na ważności. Obecnie pojedynczy font to najczęściej zestaw czcionek danego kroju i odmiany. Czyli „Arial Pogrubiony” i „Arial Kursywa”, to dwa różne fonty jednego kroju Arial. Istnieją jednak również fonty, w których możliwe jest tworzenie wielu odmian z pojedynczego zestawu czcionek. Takimi fontami były np. Multiple Master Fonts przedsiębiorstwa Adobe Systems. Należy przy tym zaznaczyć, że font, w porównaniu do zestawu czcionek w danym kroju i odmianie, zawiera więcej informacji, niż tylko same kształty znaków, są to np. pary kerningowe, możliwość stosowania znaków alternatywnych itd.
