Gringo

Gringo

Gringo - originally referred to in Latin American countries as well as in Spain, was defined as a foreigner and non-Spanish. Over time, it became contemptible for people from the United States or England to eventually become an adjective for the people of the North. A common term in South America for a tourist. Genesis In the book by Wiesław Fijalkowski "Soldier of a Lonely Star" you can find a description of an event that could contribute to the creation of this term. During the American-Mexican war, the army of the United States under the command of General Zachary Taylor, after winning a fortress defending the approach to Mexican Monterrey, entered the city in a march. Married soldiers sang the song "Green grass". By the time the troops entered the buildings, the Mexicans were hiding, and the townspeople filled them with a hail of missiles. As a result, the Americans suffered losses, withdrew from the city and began a regular siege.
