Guadalcanal is an island in the Pacific Ocean of 6470 km2, the largest of the Solomon Islands archipelago, belonging to the Solomon Islands State. It owes its name to the Spanish explorer Álvaro de Mendaña de Neira from the province of Seville. The largest city is Honiara, which is also the capital of the state. Honiara is located on the north coast of the island, between Lunga and Cruz, a few kilometers to the west of where the American foothold in 1942 was fought in the fighting with the Japanese. In 1990 the island had 50 thousand. residents. The island's surface is mountainous, mostly covered with jungles. The highest peak is the closed Popomanase volcano, 2332 m high. Representatives of the local fauna is the marsupial family of the phalanger family. The other mammals are bats and small rodents. Birds are represented extensively, including several species of colorful parrots. Reptiles here are roses crocodiles. Guadalcanal – wyspa na Oceanie Spokojnym o powierzchni 6470 km2, największa z wysp archipelagu Wysp Salomona, należąca do państwa Wyspy Salomona. Nazwę swą zawdzięcza hiszpańskiemu odkrywcy Álvaro de Mendaña de Neira pochodzącemu z prowincji Sewilli. Największym miastem jest Honiara, stanowiąca jednocześnie stolicę państwa. Honiara leży na północnym wybrzeżu wyspy, pomiędzy przylądkami Lunga i Cruz, kilka kilometrów na zachód od miejsca, gdzie w roku 1942 znajdował się przyczółek amerykański podczas walk z Japończykami. W 1990 wyspa miała 50 tys. mieszkańców. Powierzchnia wyspy jest górzysta, w większości porośnięta dżunglą. Najwyższy szczyt to nieczynny wulkan Popomanaseu wysokość 2332 m n.p.m. Przedstawicielem miejscowej fauny jest torbacz z rodziny oposów o nazwie phalanger. Pozostałe ssaki to nietoperze i małe gryzonie. Licznie reprezentowane są ptaki, w tym kilka gatunków kolorowych papug. Z gadów występują tu krokodyle różańcowe.
