Hadis - a narrative quoting the Prophet Muhammad, his deed or silent approval. Each hadith consists of a text and a chain of communicators. Hadiths make up the Sunnah - the most important source of Islamic Sharia law after the Koran. Initially they were transmitted orally through a chain of transmitters. According to the traditional views of Muslim scholars, this has led to the creation of many false hadiths that were supposed to support the interests of particular groups and about 200,000 years after the prophet's death. The Arab scholars then proceeded to examine these passages carefully, examining the chain of transmitters of each hadith. Based on this research, they have created collections of hadiths that are considered authentic.

Hadis – opowieść przytaczająca wypowiedź proroka Mahometa, jego czyn lub milczącą aprobatę. Każdy hadis składa się z tekstu i łańcucha przekazicieli. Hadisy tworzą sunnę – najważniejsze po Koranie źródło muzułmańskiego prawa szariatu. Początkowo były one przekazywane ustnie poprzez łańcuch przekazicieli. Według tradycyjnego poglądu uczonych muzułmańskich przyczyniło się to do powstania wielu fałszywych hadisów, które miały wspierać interesy poszczególnych grup i w ok. 200 lat po śmierci proroka było ich już około 200 tys. Uczeni arabscy przystąpili więc do wnikliwego badania tych przekazów, sprawdzając łańcuch przekazicieli każdego hadisu. Na podstawie owych badań stworzyli zbiory hadisów uznawanych za autentyczne.
