Hirohito

Hirohito

Hirohito - 124th emperor of Japan, reigning in 1926-1989. According to custom, the emperor of Japan after death is named after the epoch in which he reigned. Because of this, he is currently called Emperor Shōwa Hirohito became regent in 1921 when his father, Yoshihito, withdrew from public life due to mental illness. On December 25, 1926, after the death of Yoshihito, he became emperor. Shōwa was the name of his reign. He was the longest reigning emperor in Japanese history. In the early years of Hirohito's rule in Japan, militarist-nationalist tendencies grew, which led to efforts to conquer Asia. In 1940 Japan pacted with Germany and Italy and militarized the economy. Hirohito was opposed to this, but he did not really have sufficient authority to oppose the actions of successive governments. After the surrender of Japan in 1945, he retained the emperor's dignity, but lost his previously divine status, and his role was limited to representation. He died on January 7, 1989 at the age of 88, after 63 years of rule. W 1940 Japonia zawarła pakt z Niemcami i Włochami i zmilitaryzowała gospodarkę.
