Hydrobiology (aquatic biology, in the narrower sense of water ecology) - learning about the life of organisms in aquatic environment. Hydrobiology in particular deals with organisms whose size allows them to be examined macroscopically (ie with the naked eye, without the aid of optical instruments) or at least under a light microscope. In the case of taxonomic studies or metabolic microorganisms, we deal more with microbiology than with hydrobiology. However, environmental microbiology and microbiology of waters (and wastewater), especially the ecology of microorganisms, may be included in hydrobiology. Hydrobiology includes abiotic and biotic conditions. It covers several basic disciplines such as: hydrochemistry, hydrobotics, algology), hydrozoology. Hydrobiology distinguishes: ▪ limnology - covering inland waterways standing waters ▪ oceanobiology (marine biology) -

Hydrobiologia (biologia środowiska wodnego, w węższym rozumieniu ekologia wód) – nauka o życiu organizmów w środowisku wodnym. Hydrobiologia w szczególności zajmuje się organizmami, których wielkość pozwala badać je makroskopowo (tzn. "gołym okiem", bez pomocy przyrządów optycznych) lub przynajmniej pod mikroskopem świetlnym. W przypadku badań taksonomicznych czy metabolicznych mikroorganizmów mamy do czynienia bardziej z mikrobiologią niż hydrobiologią. Niemniej mikrobiologia środowiskowa i mikrobiologia wód (i ścieków), zwłaszcza ekologia mikroorganizmów, może być zaliczana do hydrobiologii. Hydrobiologia uwzględnia warunki abiotyczne, jak i biotyczne. Obejmuje kilka dyscyplin podstawowych, takich jak: hydrochemia, hydrobotanika, algologia), hydrozoologia.
