Persephone - in Greek mythology Hades's spouse, the ruler of the underworld and the guardian of the souls of the dead. She was the daughter of Demeter and Zeus. She was kidnapped by Hades when she and her companions were playing in the meadow. When she tried to break the beautiful flower of the narcissus, the earth broke open and Hades appeared in the golden chariot, abducting her into her kingdom. Desperate Demeter for nine days and nights searching for her daughter until finally distressed by her suffering, Helios confessed the goddess to the truth. Angry, Demeter left the Olympia and took fertility land. Concerned by the fate of starving people, Zeus agreed to return to Demeter's daughter, provided she did not eat anything during her stay in the cellar. Hades deliberately treated Persephone before leaving the pomegranate fruit. Ultimately, Zeus decided that Persephone would spend nine months with her mother and three with her husband. When Persephone returned to her mother, she set her spring on the ground when winter came. Hezjod was the first person to kidnap Persephone. Persephone fell in love with young Adonis and did not want to return him to Aphrodite.

Została porwana przez Hadesa, gdy wraz z towarzyszkami bawiła się na łące. Kiedy próbowała zerwać piękny kwiat narcyz, ziemia rozwarła się i pojawił się Hades w złotym rydwanie, uprowadzając ją do swego królestwa. Zrozpaczona Demeter przez dziewięć dni i nocy poszukiwała córki, aż w końcu poruszony jej cierpieniem Helios wyznał bogini prawdę. Rozzłoszczona Demeter opuściła Olimp i zabrała ziemi płodność. Zaniepokojony losem głodujących ludzi Zeus zgodził się zwrócić Demeter córkę, pod warunkiem że podczas pobytu w podziemiach nic nie spożyła. Świadom podstępu Hades poczęstował Persefonę przed odejściem owocem granatu. Ostatecznie Zeus zadecydował, że Persefona dziewięć miesięcy będzie spędzała z matką, zaś trzy z mężem. Gdy Persefona powracała do matki nastawała wiosna, gdy wracała pod ziemię rozpoczynał się okres zimy. Jako pierwszy mit o porwaniu Persefony przytoczył Hezjod. Persefona zakochała się w młodym Adonisie i nie chciała zwrócić go Afrodycie.
