Krypton

Krypton - chemical element of the group of helicopters in the periodic system. This is a colorless, unreactive gas. It was discovered in 1898 by W. Ramsay and M.W. Travers. The name comes from the Greek cryptos - hidden. Occurs in the Earth's atmosphere at about 1.14 ppm. It is one of the products of radioactive decay of uranium and plutonium. No biological significance. It has 32 isotopes in the mass range 69-100 with a half-life of 1 ms minimum. Isotope 78, 80, 82, 83, 84 and 86 are very stable. It is very reactive, like other noble gases. It only reacts with high pressure fluorine gas to form krypton fluoride and forms clathrate complexes with water and hydroquinone. Thanks to its low thermal conductivity, as well as argon, it is used to fill incandescent bulbs and windows in modern windows. Its other practical use is the search for uranium ore, as it is one of the common products of its cleavage. The 86Kr isotope has an orange-red line in the atomic spectrum.

Krypton – pierwiastek chemiczny z grupy helowców w układzie okresowym. Jest to bezbarwny, niereaktywny gaz. Został odkryty w roku 1898 przez W. Ramsaya i M.W. Traversa. Nazwa pochodzi od greckiego kryptos – ukryty. Występuje w atmosferze ziemskiej w ilości ok. 1,14 ppm. Jest jednym z produktów rozpadu promieniotwórczego uranu i plutonu. Nie ma znaczenia biologicznego. Ma 32 izotopy z przedziału liczby masowej 69–100 o okresie półtrwania minimum 1 ms. Trwałe są izotopy 78, 80, 82, 83, 84 i 86. Jest bardzo słabo reaktywny, podobnie jak inne gazy szlachetne. Reaguje tylko z gazowym fluorem pod wysokim ciśnieniem, tworząc fluorki kryptonu oraz tworzy kompleksy klatratowe z wodą i hydrochinonem. Dzięki niskiej przewodności cieplnej, podobnie jak argon, wykorzystywany jest do wypełniania żarówek i szyb zespolonych w nowoczesnych oknach. Inne jego praktyczne zastosowanie to wyszukiwanie rud uranu, jako że jest jednym z częstych produktów jego rozszczepienia. Izotop 86Kr ma pomarańczowoczerwoną linię w widmie atomowym.
