Leucippus

Leukippos

Leucyp of Miletus - a Greek philosopher from the 5th century BC, considered to be the creator of atomism - the theory of the construction of matter, proclaiming that it is composed of small, indivisible, immutable and impenetrable particles surrounded by a vacuum and varying in shape, position and order. Atoms are endowed with an eternal movement, pushing and merging into familiar things. Changes in nature were explained by the merging and disconnection of atoms, and the diversity of substances - the diversity of forms and combinations of atoms. The only known literal fragment of Leucypa's writings makes us think of him as the first determinist: Nothing happens without reason, but everything from some reason and necessity. Probably his work was the Great Order of the World, later incorporated into the canons of the writings of Democritus. Leucyp's thought continued with his student, Democritus Abdery. The views of the student and the master were so close that, due to the scarcity of sources, Leucy's contribution to the development of atomic philosophy was difficult to assess.
