Nairobi is a city and a province in Africa, the capital of Kenya, located in the center of the country at an altitude of 1700 m. at the foot of the Aberdare mountains and the sources of the Athi River. One of the largest cities in East Africa. Major industries include food, textile, chemical, wood and paper industries. An important road junction, has a rail connection with Mombasa and Kampala in Uganda. Founded in 1899 by the British in the Masai area during the construction of a railway line from Uganda to Mombasa. In 1905 it became the capital of the British Protectorate of East Africa, and in 1963 the independent of Kenya. It is the seat of a number of higher education institutions. Strathmore University. The airport is located near Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. The city is one of the four major UN headquarters in the world, the only one in the developing world. Guests of the United Nations Secretariats for the Environment and Human Settlements. In 1981, the African Charter for Human and Peoples' Rights was adopted. Nairobi – miasto i prowincja w Afryce, stolica Kenii, położone w centrum kraju na wysokości 1700 m n.p.m. u podnóża gór Aberdare i źródeł rzeki Athi. Jedno z największych miast Afryki Wschodniej. Główne gałęzie przemysłu to spożywczy, włókienniczy, chemiczny, drzewny i papierniczy. Ważny węzeł drogowy, ma połączenie kolejowe z Mombasą i Kampalą w Ugandzie. Założone w 1899 roku przez Brytyjczyków na terenach Masajów w trakcie budowy linii kolejowej z Ugandy do Mombasy. W roku 1905 stało się stolicą brytyjskiego Protektoratu Afryki Wschodniej, a w roku 1963 niepodległej Kenii. Jest siedzibą szeregu szkół wyższych m.in. Uniwersytetu Strathmore. W pobliżu miasta znajduje się port lotniczy Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Miasto jest jedną z czterech głównych siedzib ONZ na świecie, jedyną w kraju rozwijającym się. Gości Sekretariaty Programów Narodów Zjednoczonych ds. Środowiska i ds. Osiedli Ludzkich. W 1981 została tu uchwalona Afrykańska Karta Praw Człowieka i Ludów.
