offshoring

Offshoring

Offshoring - transfer of selected business processes abroad. Offshoring concerns both production and service. Its main purpose is to reduce costs, hence the beneficiaries of offshoring are usually less developed countries with lower labor costs. The transfer can take place through a foreign investment or an international subcontract. Establishing a foreign affiliate is referred to as captive offshoring. In the second case, ie when the beneficiary of the transfer is a foreign entity that is not affiliated with the company concerned, the process is called offshore outsourcing. The opposite of offshoring is inshoring. Offshoring is the sixth of the ten forces that, according to Thomas Friedman, have flattened the world. It concerns mainly the opening up of China to international cooperation and free trade with the rest of the world. This powerful market for the rest of the world is an opportunity and a threat at the same time.
