Pulque

Pulque - a low-calorie, slightly sparkling alcoholic beverage, traditionally consumed by the residents of Mesoamerica, made from fermented maguey pulquero juice Agave salmiana. This plant was in ancient Mexico considered by the Indians to be sacred and used in religious ceremonies. Pulque is also produced from several other agave species: American Agave, Dark Agave, Agave lehmia, Agave supplement, Agave gracilispina, Agave crassispina, Agave quiotifera. Confirmed references to pulque appear in the year 200. Many researchers believe that the pulque has originated from an alcoholic drink called the ixtac octal, used by pre-Columbian Mesoamericans during religious rites to attain the state of intoxication and vision. Pulque was offered a goddess associated with this drink, called Mayahuel. Drug addicts received warriors before the fight. In 1968, a wall painting known as "Brewing Pulque" was discovered at the Pyramid in Cholula.
