Riesling

Riesling

Riesling - a white wine from the Rhine valley in Germany. It is an aromatic species of vines with a floral, almost perfumed bouquet and high acidity. It is used for the production of dry, semi-sweet and sparkling wines. Rieslings are usually clean and not matured in oak barrels. In 2004 it was estimated that riesling is the twentieth most cultivated vine, but in terms of importance among white quality wines it usually falls within the first three together with chardonnay and sauvignon blanc varieties. Riesling is characterized by high expression of terroir, which means that the riesling properties clearly affect the place where the fruit comes from. Riesling, with a score of 20.8% and 21 thousand. ha, was the most commonly cultivated vine in Germany in 2006, as well as in the French Alsace, where it accounted for 21.9% of the crop, occupying 3 350 hectares.
